This slow, deliberate form of communication created a unique bond. It proved that our friendships weren't just based on convenience or proximity; they were anchored in genuine loyalty and mutual care. While my daily life was completely consumed by the cold, hyper-competitive, and fast-paced environment of Hong Kong, these letters and brief phone calls acted as my emotional sanctuary. They constantly reminded me of a place where I was valued for who I was, not just for how much money I made or how fast I worked. Looking back, I am incredibly grateful for that era of letters and long-distance calls. It taught me the value of patience and intentionality in maintaining relationships. It ensured that even though I was physically stuck in the concrete jungle of Hong Kong trying to graduate and survive, my emotional connection to Indonesia never withered. This enduring bond laid the groundwork for my eventual return to the country years later, both as a visitor and as a business owner who still carries a deep, lifelong love for the land and its people.
